I never read the newspaper. Not to offend any aspiring newspaper junkie writer people, but it doesn't interest me. Sometimes I'll flip through the NY Times Food section because the pictures are pretty outstanding, but the fashion section doesn't tend to interest me. In an attempt to twist my view on newspapers and force myself to read scan the pictures the fashion section, I came across an article featuring Nina Garcia and her favorite warming trends. Included was a 3.1 Phillip Lim look with a pair of cargo pants, (ugly) sandals, and a mohair sweater with a leather vest over it. Call me intrigued. In the midst of analyzing this sexy yet manly and gothic inspired look (I put a similar runway picture above, but couldn't find the exact one from the paper) I figured there had to be more people rocking vests over sweaters. Why hadn't this come to my mind in the past?

During winter, a (long) fur vest over a chunky sweater (this particular article was about mohair), is a great addition to denim or leggings, and during the spring a simple white v- with a leather vest over and jeans is another way to recreate this look. For those of you on the more feminine side, opt for a flirty flower print skirt with a leather vest on top, which is an interesting contrast between a menswear inspired look and your average girly skirt.

Remember, the trick to a successful outfit is to confuse everyone looking at your outfit. Fashion isn't supposed to be straightforward.
