To say the least, I was astounded and impressed by Zimmermann's SS14 line.
A mesh between sexy swimsuits and beach appropriate dresses, Zimmermann
has found the way to bring beachwear ready looks to the floor front of RTW
clothing. In return, our generation of what we consider RTW clothing versus
wearable during specific seasons and moments changes drastically. Originally
an Australian based swimsuit and ready to wear brand, Zimmermann opened its
first Soho flagship store last year, and showed for the first time this season at
Lincoln Center, unusual for a designer who has just barely made their mark on
American territory. They joined 2 other Australian designers who made their mark
on American design this season too. Known for classic but cutting edge silhouettes
and glamourous beach inspired looks, this is a line to keep your eye out for.
Inspired by a feminine but edgy aesthetic, with Sydney and warm based roots
in mind, sisters Nicky and Simone have created a collection that is only wearable
for the confident, chic, and utterly down to earth fashionista with a eye for bold
patterns and silk fabrics in mind. Accessorize your one piece suit with a drastic
silver necklace, and pair a pair of Zimmermann's nude colored wrap sandals on to
run to dinner in. With loud but creatively soft music playing in the background, the
models graced the runway with their silk clothing following in a trail behind them.
Similar to what an angel walking down a runway would look like.
Asymmetrical hemlines were contrasted with leather accessories (like the belts and
shoes) and daring cut-outs in the midst of a one piece bathing suit made audience
members eyes open wide.
I couldn't expect anything more from this collection, and based on what they have
already brought to the table, it is time we all take a minute and hop on the Australian
inspired design bus.
