When I got my ticket to the Rafael Cennamo show during FW last month,
I wasn't expecting anything more than another show similar to BCBG,
Candela (etc.) but was pleasantly surprised. Of course, since you know my
love for presentations over the usual crowded and messy runway show,
walking into the presentation room was a mysterious but intriguing way
to be introduced to this line. As previously mentioned in former NYFW posts,
gold took the stand at almost all of the runway shows and presentations.
Rafael's show was the epitome of a Christmas tree celebration: gold
headpieces (with the edgier effect since the headpiece above seems to
represent some type of saw), gold ballgowns with tulle and lace dripping
over the elegant and sophisticated bedazzled bodice...Some pieces were
more formal while others could be appropriate for an artistic evening
at a country club with only the most exquisite guests in attendance.
However, the lack of RTW pieces is somewhat unsatisfying, but for a
couture presentation I should not be expected gold jeans and leather
jackets I suppose. It is always nice to have the one item in the collection
that could be worn to dinner at a regular restaurant vs. dinners that
only the celebrities attend, but having that be my only complaint about the
show is significantly impressive. The old world but extremely modern vibe
is fluent throughout, and looking at the whole collection you know they
fit perfectly together. Not one stands out as something that should be
situated in another set. Even though I can't say I would be caught in a
gold headpiece that people may possibly think is a weapon, if someone
gifted me a ticket to the MET Ball and one of those bedazzled and gold
encrusted ball gowns, that is the type of statement that I like.
This is one line to keep your eye out for in the future. Can you imagine
what the S/S 14' collection will bring? Possibly hot pink leotards and
stiletto heels only Gaga would be seen in? I like the idea of being left
P.S. Do you like my new layout!? Woohoooo!
