Gossip Girl is the one show we all wish that we could star in. Whether it be the 100 pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes or Gucci belts the main characters have, they live the life of the rich and famous. Even though that lifestyle is miles away from reality, it’s definitely easy to wish that our closets looked like Blair and Serena’s. Excluding the penthouse and maids, you may be even closer to the GG lifestyle than you expected, with these simple tips on how to dress like the main characters, without breaking the bank.
Serena Van Der Woodsen
Serena is the quintessential Upper East Side girl, minus the Blair Waldorf attitude. She’s blonde and beautiful, with a preppy and eclectic style only Serena can pull off. Serena is stylish with a rocker chic touch, and always incorporates a vintage aspect into her wardrobe. There are a few staples that you can purchase at stores like Forever 21, Target, Urban Outfitters, or T.J.Maxx that will have you looking and feel like Serena Van Der Woodsen in no time!
Serena is almost always in a tailored jacket. Whether it be her classic prep school jacket, or a sequin blazer, she knows how to add a simple jacket to any outfit and instantly be spruced up. She has a collection of tons of different jackets—wool, leather, plaid, sequin…the list goes on. Find this piece at Marshalls, Zara, or Delia’s in staple colors that can be worn with everything!
Ann Taylor 1 and 2
Serena’s wardrobe is said to be inspired by Kate Moss, so the classic jean is bound to have a spot in your wardrobe. She opts for darker washes to pair with her signature blazer and tie, but a wash of any sort mixed with your jacket is perfect. Find denim at your local mall, or consignment store if you want to follow in Serena’s footsteps and wear her classic 7 For All Mankind jean.
LOFT and Nordstrom BP
A Serena outfit is a statement in itself, with little room to add many extra accessories. Still, Serena can be caught wearing flirty and juvenile headbands, or fearless accessories like furry boots or a gold necklace and bracelet. She is also known for layering necklaces, which is a fun and outgoing technique to vamp up any outfit. Look for jewelry at BP by Nordstrom, Kensie, and Claire’s!

Blair: high school takes the Upper East Side. She is never going to appear without Tory Burch flats, or a Gucci handbag. But that doesn’t mean you to have break your budget to follow her overpriced path.
Dress and Skirts
Blair is always in a fancy dress or sparkly skirt. She’s the epitome of the American Girly Girl. If you want to dress like Blair, forget about denim, and head over to Charlotte Russe or H&M for expensive looking dresses (for less, of course). Cute patterns and bright colors are a must.

Blair loves her bright colored tights in the winter, or splashes of color in her stilettos. She is a huge fan of color blocking, and her favorite colors are red and yellow. Color blocking is super-easy, as long as the colors of the clothing follow the same color palette.
Since Blair is such a girly girl, she’s a huge fan of a vintage diamond brooch for a dinner event, or a bold diamond necklace with matching earrings during school. She keeps her hair low-key, but uses accessories as a way to bring more attention to her rich taste in clothing. She keeps her accessories to a minimum, and makes sure to never over-accessorize.

Vanessa is the one Gossip Girl character who isn’t a huge fan of the lines at Bergdorf Goodman or Bloomingdale’s. She is a major thrifter, and would rather be in the latest plaid look than the newest diamond collection from David Yurman.
Denim is a Gossip Girl staple. Vanessa is low-key and wears a large amount of denim. Whether it be under a dress or paired with her staple varsity jacket, denim is a big part of her wardrobe. She buys her jeans at H&M, thrift stores, or T.J. Maxx, so opt for places like these to purchase.
Vanessa happens to be quite into vintage looks, so her letterman jacket is another staple. You can find these at thrift stores, or even try surfing through your parents’ closet—there could be one in there! Vanessa is a risk taker, and she isn’t afraid to pair her jacket over her jeans or a frilly dress.
Jenny has been the ultimate rocker gal from day one. She began as a more innocent background character, but as she began her descent into the fashion industry, her style evolved and took on a life of its own. She’s known for preppy plaid jackets or blazers with a pair of black leather combat boots or a crazy hat.
The leather jacket is a huge part of Jenny’s wardrobe. Jenny usually works with a motorcycle cut jacket, which looks great on her small frame. This type of jacket also happens to be one of the edgiest, and Jenny gravitates towards its gothic effect. She sticks to a black, grey, or neutral colored jacket, and the rest of her outfit usually follows in the same color palette. Look for leather jackets at T.J. Maxx, PacSun, and American Eagle.
Jenny loves a great bootie! She usually pairs hers with a black dress or a pair of skinny jeans, but her boots are almost always in a dark color. Some have studs, lace, or zippers, which add a new element to her look. These can be found at Aldo, Steve Madden, or Topshop.
Studs, spikes, or any accessory with an “s” is an item you can count on Jenny having in her closet. She’s a fan of black studded bags, or spiked earrings, which bring her all-black look up to a new dark level. Fishnet stockings (which can be found at Walmart or JCPenney) are an essential during colder seasons.
