If you know me, you know my obsession with anything bedazzled or braided.
This season, Candela put on another unmissable presentation at Lincoln Center,
with even more boho inspired braids and even more bedazzling. Last season,
Candela didn't appeal to me as much as previous seasons, mainly because
every piece was shockingly similar to those seen in previous seasons, which was
disappointing. For the SS14 collections, I was pleasantly surprised to see the difference
in creative mastermind behind the line. Inspired utterly by the way of the sea and
Candela's underlying mission (which is for the bohemian off-duty babe), every piece
can be worn from the beach to a classy dinner event to a night out with friends. With
fabrics like cotton and linen used (for an airy, breezy vibe), not many pieces are heavy
or considered difficult to mix and match with other clothing items. Even the hair is an
easy pull-off, as long as you have shiny and irresistibly sexy locks like the models have.
Are these pieces all for the size 0/2 5'10 girl? No. Many can be worn on various body
types, pointing to be an usual but appealing collection to all.
Every inch of every item is hand crafted, and that is more than obvious. The time and
dedication that must go in to making a pair of those tassel mirror type shoes is
electrifying: what girl wouldn't want those in her closet for a hot date or night on the
town with a group of girlfriends? Not to mention actual netting in the models hair: not
that one would necessarily wear that out to say, a dinner party, but the use of those
unusual fabrics and bold items to tie the collection together make an insane difference
in Candela's definition of beauty.
